A goal my husband and I have for 2025 is to read one book together each month throughout the year. The purpose? To grow, to have someone to discuss the book with, and to do something together that unites us.
We both love to read. But how often have you read something you loved, and then tried to convey that with someone else, to know that they didn’t catch all you did. They just have to read it!
To eliminate that experience, where one person has a WOW! book moment, we wanted to create an opportunity to read together.
So, B & K Reads 2025 was initiated. And one area we really wanted to focus on this year was living a generous life.
Read on for our first book pick for January!

For January, we read, A Generous Life: 10 Steps to Living a Life Money Can’t Buy, by David Green. David Green, the founder of Hobby Lobby, has built more than just a craft store loved by many. He has built a life of faith and generosity. The book outlines practical and biblical guidelines toward purposeful giving. With a tone that is both wise and deeply rooted in biblical wisdom, Green’s book was an inspiration to both of us in the area of generosity.
Something near and dear to my husband and I is the idea of stewardship. Green writes, “…everything we have is a gift from God. Whether our ability is playing an instrument or running a company, God is the One who bestows us with everything we have. It is his to give.”
Green’s book is just covered with a heart for generosity. You’ll see that in his personal life, his business decisions, and the unity his family shows as he leads them with godly wisdom he so carefully seeks after.
This is a short, quick, and easy read. While concise, it is full of so much depth. I asked my husband his thoughts on the read, and he said it best:
“Generosity is not something that happens by chance, but something that requires intention. When you make generosity a core value of your family, you have a filter to make decisions through.”
Read this book if you want to grow in the area of generosity. Read it if you love Hobby Lobby and want to hear about the godly man who has faithfully stewarded his business. Read it if you want to hear how biblical generosity is being lived out in a family who is boldly living their faith.
