Nestled in the heart of Litchfield Park, Arizona, the Wigwam Resort and Spa offers a perfect blend of historic charm and modern luxury, making it an ideal backdrop for family photography. Recently, I had the honor of photographing some dear friends at a location in the Phoenix valley we all loved.
The Location: The Wigwam Resort and Spa
Manicured walkways, old mission-style buildings, rows of roses, and plenty of cacti and palm trees fill the Wigwam Resort and Spa with stunning settings for photography. Citrus trees and shaded areas are tucked all over this quaint resort for a classic, southwestern style with a touch of history. For this session, the adobe-styled buildings, towering palm trees, rose-lined sidewalks and desert landscaping complimented this family’s classic and fun style.
Comfortable, Thoughtful & Joyful Sessions
Each family brings their own personal style and heart to every session. Their warmth and joy made capturing this session a blast! I loved working with this family for so many reasons:
All smiles. Of course, we’re going to want to capture those sweet smiles in photographs! But what I love as a photographer are also the moments off camera, where we laugh and get to know one another. Photography sessions can be intimidating or uncomfortable. My goal is to design sessions that are comfortable, thoughtful, and joyful. When everyone brings a positive and yet laid back attitude, family sessions flow like a breeze.
Classic style. Some colors photograph beautifully. I love that this family chose a classic, muted style that was beautifully complimented by the colors of the cacti, roses, and desert landscaping.
The connections. Family photography is just that: capturing the lives of the people near and dear to us who we love the most. I’ve said it before, but some of my most favorite photographs are of mom and dad. We all know our camera rolls tend to be lots of photographs of our sweet children (which we love!). But I love capturing mom and dad, the two committed to each other, who together lead their family as they keep their eyes on Jesus. Those are some of my most favorite photographs. Because a healthy marriage is a total blessing to the whole family.
Tips For a Successful Session at the Wigwam Resort
Plan for Golden Hour: The lighting during this time is unbeatable and adds a dreamy quality to your photos. Golden hour is the period of time prior to sunset.
Coordinate Outfits: Neutral tones pair wonderfully with the resort’s earthy, desert palette.
Explore the Property: The Wigwam has so many unique spots to offer—from charming courtyards to open fields—so take advantage of the variety. (Remember to walk the sidewalks with respect and kindness for guests.)
